Law enforcement agencies will maintain strict control over law and order to ensure citizens can exercise their right to vote without hindrance, stated Dr. A. K. M. Akhtaruzzaman Basunia, Additional DIG (Acting) of Rangpur Range.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a law and order awareness meeting held on Sunday (January 18) at the GM Pilot High School ground in Phulbari, Dinajpur, ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election.
The Additional DIG announced that the national election is scheduled for February 12. Symbols will be allotted on January 21, with official campaigning starting on January 22. "We want people from all walks of life to participate. The police will ensure a fair and peaceful environment at every polling station," he said.
He emphasized that a high voter turnout is the benchmark of an impartial and acceptable election. "Our message is clear: come to the polling stations without fear. Your vote is your responsibility, and no one else can cast it for you," the DIG added.
He urged citizens to immediately report any obstacles to the police, noting that district and circle-level officers are on high alert.
The meeting was also attended by Dinajpur Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Rafiqul Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Phulbari Circle) Shahinur Rahman, and GM Pilot High School Principal Tozammel Hossain.
