Argentina midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has found himself at the center of an online debate just days before the 2026 World Cup, following a viral video recorded during a concert by his girlfriend, singer Tini Stoessel.

The footage, captured on May 30 in Lima, Peru spread quickly across social media. Many fans speculated that the defending world champion was using a vape during the show. However, while the clip went viral within hours, the footage is inconclusive. It does not clearly show the object in De Paul's hand, nor does it provide solid evidence of what he was actually doing.

The controversy escalated primarily due to timing. With the World Cup opening match in Mexico City rapidly approaching, public scrutiny of the Argentine squad has intensified. While some fans quickly criticized De Paul, others urged caution due to the lack of clear visual evidence.

The debate also raised a common question among football fans: Does FIFA prohibit vaping? The short answer is no. FIFA regulations do not prevent players from vaping in their private lives or during authorized time off. Furthermore, nicotine is not listed as a banned substance under the organization's anti-doping rules.

Context is also key. De Paul traveled to Peru during his authorized rest period before officially rejoining the national squad.

The Argentine national team is currently based in Kansas City, their operations center for the tournament. De Paul is expected to report to the camp in the coming hours to begin formal training and prepare for friendlies scheduled for the first week of June.
