Inter Miami returned to winning ways in Major League Soccer (MLS) with a commanding 4-2 victory over Toronto FC at BMO Field. The night belonged to Lionel Messi, who orchestrated the win with one goal and two assists, setting a historic league record in the process.
Messi’s playmaking brilliance was on full display as he assisted Luis Suarez in the 56th minute and Sergio Reguillón in the 73rd. He capped off his performance by finding the net himself in the 75th minute, assisted by Rodrigo De Paul.
With these three goal contributions, Messi became the fastest player in MLS history to reach 100 goal involvements. He achieved the milestone in just 64 regular-season matches, tallying 59 goals and 41 assists. To put this in perspective, he shattered the previous record held by Sebastian Giovinco, who reached the century mark in 95 matches.
Following a narrow 4-3 loss to Orlando City in their previous outing, this win moves Inter Miami to 22 points from 12 matches. They currently sit level with New England and trail league leaders Nashville by two points.
