In a major blow to the newly formed Chattogram Metropolitan Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), 22 leaders and activists have resigned from its convening committee. The mass resignation follows allegations of "evaluation failure" and "immoral activities" within the party’s leadership.
The resignations include several high-ranking officials, such as joint conveners, joint member secretaries, and co-organizing secretaries. Rafsan Joni Riaz, the committee’s office secretary, confirmed the development on Friday, stating that dedicated members who sacrificed for the party were overlooked in the new lineup.
"We want a complete re-evaluation of this committee," Riaz said. "We intend to formally notify the central convener, Nahid Islam, about these grievances."
Hujjatul Islam Sayeed, the committee’s co-organizing secretary, expressed disappointment, citing a lack of transparency and morality in the committee’s formation. He alleged that the practice of personal interests and corruption has undermined the party’s ideals.
The 168-member committee, with Mir Mohammad Shoaib as convener and Arif Moinuddin as member secretary, was only announced by the party’s central office this past Thursday. The defecting members stated they will continue to work independently for justice and a transparent political culture.
