Police released local Jubo League leader Ripon Sarkar on Friday night within just two hours after arresting him on suspicion of involvement in a sabotage incident in Bhangura, Pabna.

Ripon (Ward No. 1 Jubo League president of Par-Bhangura Union) was arrested from his village on Friday evening. Following his arrest over 200 villagers led by Upazila Chhatra Dal joint convener Shafiqul Islam Sohel surrounded and protested outside the Bhangura Police Station demanding his immediate release.

The situation was brought under control after police held a meeting with Chhatra Dal leader Sohel and local village elders in the Officer-in-Charge's (OC) room. Ripon was subsequently released around 10:30 PM.

Defending the protest, Chhatra Dal leader Sohel claimed that local politics over a village market led to the arrest. "He was detained to benefit a specific individual, which is why we came to the police station," Sohel stated.

Bhangura Police Station OC Shakyul Azam confirmed the release, stating that Ripon had been detained strictly as a suspect. "Since no evidence of his involvement in the sabotage was found, he was released into the custody of the villagers upon signing a bond," the OC clarified.
