A major new political alliance, the National Democratic Front (NDF), has been launched, bringing together 18 political parties, including several notable factions of the Jatiya Party.
The formation was announced at Emmanuelle's Party Centre in Dhaka by former MP and minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, who stated the NDF comprises six registered and 12 unregistered parties. Key to the alliance is the collaboration between Jatiya Party factions led by Anisul Islam Mahmud and Anwar Hossain Manju, the latter of whom spoke as the chief guest at the announcement event.
The NDF's stated goals are ambitious: to advance genuine democratic transformation in Bangladesh, build a national consensus to resolve the current political crisis, uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and carry forward the aspirations of the July uprising.
Mahmud emphasized that the coalition aiming "push for necessary state reforms, end fascism, and amplify the weak voices of people yearning for good governance." Ruhul Amin Howlader, secretary general of Anisul Islam's Jatiya Party faction, delivered the opening remarks at the event.
