Following Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus's national address announcing the simultaneous holding of the national election and the July National Charter referendum in February, major political leaders have voiced immediate criticism.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed accused CA Yunus of violating the July National Charter, a document the CA himself had signed on October 17 at the National Parliament. Salahuddin stated that the CA "has clearly violated that document" by his address.
Salahuddin specifically criticized the decision to form a "Constitution Reform Council," asserting that this was a "newly imposed" decision that was never part of the National Consensus Commission's agenda or a subject of national consensus.
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar stated that the decision to hold the election and the referendum on the same day failed to meet public expectations.
Earlier on Thursday, CA Yunus announced that the 13th national election and a referendum on the July National Charter proposals would be held simultaneously in the first half of February next year.
He also confirmed that the Advisory Council approved the July National Charter (Reform of Constitution) Implementation Order 2025.
