Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated today that a formal decision on upgrading Comilla to a administrative division will be based entirely on public demand and consensus.
"The country comes first, and it belongs to everyone," the Prime Minister said while addressing a roadside rally at the Lakshmipur Bazar ground in Barura upazila, Comilla, on Saturday. He reiterated his administration's commitment to national reconstruction, promising to implement all pledges made under the public mandate.
During the rally, the crowd raised chanted demands for a distinct 'Comilla division.' In response, the Prime Minister assured them, "If everyone agrees on this demand, it will be implemented."
Earlier in the day, thousands of activists and locals gathered at the venue with banners and festoons. By 10:30 AM, the ground had transformed into a massive rally. When the Prime Minister stepped onto the stage, the crowd welcomed him with thunderous applause, and he waved back in acknowledgment.
"People voted for us based on the plans we presented. We will fulfill every promise we made," the Prime Minister affirmed.
Following the event in Barura, the Prime Minister traveled to Chandpur. At 12:30 PM, he inaugurated the re-excavation project of the 'Khordda Canal' at Uaruk Bazar in Shahrasti upazila. Later at 1:45 PM, he inaugurated another dredging project for the 'Bishwa Canal' at Kumarduli village in Chandpur Sadar upazila.
