A fire broke out at a fish wholesale market in Karwan Bazar near the TCB Bhaban in the capital on Monday night (February 16).
Five firefighting units rushed to the scene at around 10:46pm and began efforts to control the blaze. Later, three additional units were deployed as the fire spread to several nearby establishments, including wooden shops.
The incident was confirmed by Shahjahan Hossain, duty officer at the control room of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
He said the cause of the fire could not be determined immediately. As of filing this report, there were no confirmed reports of casualties.
Firefighters were continuing operations to bring the situation fully under control.
