The coffin of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia arrived at the western end of Manik Mia Avenue, adjacent to the Parliament (Jatiya Sangsad) complex. Draped in the national flag, the hearse was accompanied by a motorcade including her son, Tarique Rahman, and other family members.
Prior to reaching the Parliament area, the body was kept at Tarique Rahman's Gulshan residence, where a massive influx of senior BNP leaders, activists, and well-wishers gathered for a final glimpse.
In a symbolic parallel, her funeral prayers are being held at the same location where her husband, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, was honored following his assassination in 1981.
To accommodate the hundreds of thousands of mourners expected, the Chief Adviser’s Office confirmed the Janaza will span the inner grounds of the Parliament, surrounding areas, and the entire stretch of Manik Mia Avenue.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has enforced significant traffic restrictions to facilitate the procession.
Key areas including Bijoy Sarani, Jahangir Gate, Mohakhali Flyover, and Airport Road have seen restricted movement.
Citizens have been urged to avoid Mirpur Road and surrounding thoroughfares until the funeral rites are completed to prevent congestion and ensure a smooth burial process.
Khaleda Zia will be laid to rest beside her husband’s grave later this afternoon following the conclusion of the Janaza.
