Chief Advisor Congratulates Nahid Islam on Electoral Success

Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, has congratulated the convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP) Nahid Islam for his success in the 13th parliamentary elections.

The chief advisor congratulated Nahid in a message on Saturday (February 14).

Addressing Nahid Islam, the chief advisor said, "The courage, determination and confidence with which the National Citizens Party participated in the 13th parliamentary elections under your leadership will be marked as a significant chapter in the democratic history of Bangladesh. As a new political party born just a year ago in the context of the student-public uprising of 1924, to contest 30 seats, win six of them and build a fierce and respectable competition in several more seats is an extraordinary achievement. This success is not just a matter of election statistics; it is a powerful expression of the self-confidence, dreams and democratic spirit of the young generation."

He said, ‘Those turbulent days of 1924 are still fresh in our memories. Your leadership, courage and indomitable spirit made that movement orderly and goal-oriented. The sacrifice and firm stand of your fellow fighters have awakened a feeling of deep gratitude in the hearts of the nation. I personally and on behalf of the nation express my deep respect and gratitude to all of you.’

The Chief Advisor said, ‘The opportunity to have you as a colleague in the Advisory Council for a few days was a valuable experience for me. At that time, I was impressed by your efficiency, subject-based depth, principled firmness and interest in understanding the administrative process.’

Professor Yunus said, democracy develops only when new voices emerge, new ideas find a place and bridges are built between generations. This short-term success of your party proves that the people of Bangladesh, especially the youth, are ready to trust in principled and ideal-based politics. It is now your big responsibility to protect this trust.

He said, through the representation achieved in the parliament, you have got a historic opportunity to highlight the hopes and aspirations of the people, especially the dreams and expectations of the youth. I hope that under your leadership, the National Citizen Party will give a stronger and institutional form to democracy through constructive, rational and responsible political practices.

The Chief Advisor said, today's achievement is a prediction of even greater responsibilities in the future. It is our hope that this transformation from the path of struggle to the mainstream of politics - may it keep the ideals and values intact.

'I wish you personal good health, long life and overall well-being from the Almighty God,' he said.
