CDA Uncovers Severe Parking Violations at Chittagong Hospitals and Schools

To combat severe traffic congestion the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) launched a drive uncovering widespread parking and building design violations at major local hospitals and schools.

Led by CDA Chairman Engr. Belayet Hossain on August 6 the inspection targeted Parkview Ibn Sina and Delta hospitals alongside Chittagong Grammar School and Ideal High School.

At Parkview Hospital authorities found a narrowed dropping bay (15 feet instead of the approved 20) and parking spaces illegally used to store cylinders and office supplies. The CDA ordered immediate clearance and better signage.

Violations were even more severe at Ibn Sina and Delta hospitals. Neither could present approved building designs during the drive. Ibn Sina operating on a residential plot, had only three to four parking spots instead of the mandated 20 and lacked a dropping bay. Delta Hospital similarly lacked adequate parking, dropping bays, or basic traffic signage also using its minimal space for storage.

Educational institutions also failed compliance checks. Chittagong Grammar School’s Chatteshwari campus running in a residential building had only one parking space despite 26 being approved. Meanwhile Ideal High School, operating in a commercial building, utilized its parking solely for its own microbus.

Chairman Hossain issued a one-month ultimatum to all institutions to resolve their parking crises. He urged schools to introduce buses to reduce private car traffic and relocate to permanent campuses if possible.

"We will convene with hospital owners, school authorities, the City Corporation, and traffic and health departments" Hossain stated. "Everyone must collaborate to keep Chittagong livable."
