Sylhet Court Hands Down Death Penalty in MC College Gang Rape Case

Nearly six years after a housewife was brutally gang-raped at the MC College hostel in Sylhet, justice has finally been served.

On Tuesday afternoon, Judge Swapan Kumar Sarkar of the Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal delivered the verdict in the presence of the accused. One perpetrator has been sentenced to death, while three others have been handed life imprisonment for their involvement in the horrific assault.

Public Prosecutor Abul Hossain confirmed the sentencing, marking the conclusion of a deeply concerning case that took nearly six years to reach a resolution. The verdict represents a significant step in delivering justice for the victim and holding the offenders accountable under Bangladeshi law.
