Rail communication between Dhaka and northern Bangladesh has been temporarily suspended after two coaches of the Panchagarh-bound Ekta Express derailed near the Ishwardi Bypass Station.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Monday. No casualties were reported, though eight wheels across the two coaches derailed just before the train entered the station, halting all operations on the Ishwardi-Dhaka-Parbatipur route.
Abu Hena Mostafa Alam, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) for Paksey, confirmed the derailment. He stated that a relief train from the Ishwardi Locomotive Diesel Factory was immediately dispatched and recovery operations are actively underway to restore rail services.
To determine the cause of the accident, railway authorities have formed a five-member investigation committee led by Paksey Divisional Railway Transport Officer (DTO) Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan. The committee—which includes senior mechanical, structural, and signaling engineers—has been directed to submit its findings within three working days.
