


Khulna-6 MP Alhaj Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on Tuesday inaugurated the government’s Boro paddy procurement drive in Paikgachha upazila.
The inauguration ceremony was held on the morning of May 12, where the MP formally launched the collection program by cutting a ribbon and collecting paddy directly from local farmers.
The event was chaired by Upazila Executive Officer Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury and moderated by Upazila Food Controller Hasibur Rahman. Among others present were Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Ekramul Hossain, Upazila Food Inspector Debla Shil, Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain, and local political, social and agricultural representatives.
According to the Food Department, the government has set a target to procure 629 metric tons of Boro paddy directly from farmers in the upazila by August 31. Farmers will receive Tk 36 per kilogram for paddy. Each farmer can sell a minimum of one metric ton and a maximum of three metric tons.
Speaking at the event, MP Abul Kalam Azad urged all concerned to work together to ensure the country’s food security and protect farmers’ fair rights.
