Locals in Bheramara’s Dharampur union have demanded the immediate closure of an unauthorized factory accused of producing fake baby food, juice, jelly and liquid yogurt in unhygienic conditions. They also called for the arrest of factory owner Majnu Hossain.
According to local sources, the factory in the Satbaria area allegedly manufactured and marketed counterfeit baby food products using labels and packaging of well-known national brands collected from Dhaka’s Chawk Bazar. Residents said the products were produced without government approval or proper hygiene standards, posing serious health risks to children and consumers.
Majnu Hossain, son of Rezaul Karim of Satbaria village, has been accused of operating the factory without a valid license or legal documents.
A mobile court recently fined Majnu Hossain Tk 1 lakh during a raid on the factory. Authorities also seized and destroyed a large quantity of unauthorized baby food products and raw materials.
Factory owner Majnu Hossain confirmed that the mobile court conducted a raid and imposed the fine.
BSTI Inspector Asif Karim said several drives had previously been conducted at the same factory for manufacturing unauthorized and counterfeit food products. Despite repeated fines, the factory allegedly continued producing fake juice, jelly, liquid yogurt and baby food items.
Bheramara Upazila Executive Officer Rafiqul Islam said the seized products were destroyed in the presence of the executive magistrate during the operation.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Dr. Gazi Ashiq Bahar, BSTI Inspector Asif Karim, Kushtia Field Officer Khairul Islam, along with police and Ansar personnel, were present during the drive.
