A fisherman was narrowly rescued on Saturday afternoon after his boat capsized in the Meghna River due to strong currents.

The incident occurred around 2:00 PM in the channel between Madanpur Union in Daulatkhan Upazila and the Nasir Majhi area of Bhola Sadar. The fisherman, identified as 42-year-old Md. Ismail Hossain Majhi, is the son of Shahe Alam Majhi and a resident of Madanpur Union.

Witnesses reported that Ismail was fishing in the middle of the river when his boat was overwhelmed by a sudden, powerful current and sank instantly. As he struggled to stay afloat, he shouted for help.

A passenger trawler traveling from Madanpur to Nasir Majhi heard his cries. The passengers alerted the boatman, and the crew managed to pull Ismail from the water. He was later transported back to Madanpur in stable condition.

Syed Ashikur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Bhola’s Elisha Naval Police Station, stated that while the station had not received a formal report, they are currently looking into the details of the incident.
