A two-and-a-half-year-old boy, Araf, died on Wednesday after accidentally falling into a drum filled with diesel at his home in Sadullapur upazila.

The accident occurred last Tuesday in Palan Para village, Dhaperhat Union. Araf was the only child of Babu Mia, a local truck owner.

According to family sources, Babu Mia had recently drained approximately 50 liters of diesel into an open plastic drum after his truck's fuel tank developed a leak. He kept the drum on the house veranda for storage. While playing nearby, Araf fell into the drum unnoticed by family members.

He was rescued in critical condition and rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, April 22. Local Union Parishad member Mehedi Hasan Ekramul confirmed the passing.

The tragic loss of the young child has cast a deep shadow of grief over the village.
