


A university student died after attempting suicide in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram following a dispute over money with his family. The deceased, Azimul Islam, 24, was the son of Fazlul Haque, an auto-rickshaw driver from Shimulbari village under Shimulbari union.
Family members said Azimul returned home last Thursday and asked his father for a large sum of money. His father said he was unable to provide it due to financial hardship. Soon after, Azimul attempted suicide by hanging himself in his room.
His mother noticed the incident and rescued him by cutting the rope. He was first taken to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened.
He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Saturday morning.
After the news spread, relatives and locals gathered at his home. His body was brought back to the village in the afternoon.
Shimulbari Union Parishad Chairman Md. Shariful Islam Sohel called the incident tragic, saying the loss of a young student in such circumstances is deeply saddening.
Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Hasan Naeem confirmed the incident. He said an unnatural death (UD) case has been filed and the matter is under investigation.
