A mob in Saltha, Faridpur, sparked controversy after publicly cutting off the hair of a 18-year-old youth, identified as Junayed (alias Juna), following allegations of drug trafficking.

The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Friday in Bhabukdia village, Gotti Union. A 57-second video of the act began circulating on social media on Saturday morning, showing a man using scissors to shave Junayed’s head while a crowd watched and filmed the scene on their phones.

Local residents claimed that Junayed, son of Samad Mia, had been selling marijuana and yaba in the area for a long time. They alleged that despite repeated warnings, he continued the trade. On Friday night, locals reportedly caught him while he was attempting to sell drugs to outsiders.

During the incident, Junayed reportedly admitted to his involvement and was released after promising to quit the trade. However, the vigilante justice has drawn mixed reactions. While some locals felt the public shaming was necessary, others argued that he should have been handed over to the police.

Indrajit Mallick, OC (Investigation) of Saltha Police Station, stated that law enforcement was not initially informed of the incident. "We are now investigating the matter, and legal action will be taken accordingly," he said.
