An infant has died while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Tuesday morning.
Hospital authorities confirmed the child, aged less than six months, was referred from Cox’s Bazar. According to CMCH sources, the infant was admitted late Monday night and immediately moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to their critical condition.
District Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam confirmed the fatality, noting that while the clinical symptoms pointed to measles, a definitive diagnosis is pending. "We cannot confirm it was measles until the lab results arrive. Samples have been sent for testing," he stated.
Data from the Civil Surgeon’s office indicates a rise in suspected cases. As of 10:00 AM Tuesday, seven cases of measles and one case of rubella have been confirmed in the district. Currently, 29 patients are hospitalized with similar symptoms, while 75 samples have been sent to Dhaka for specialized testing.
