Wheelchairs for Disabled People, Life Jackets for Fishermen Distributed in Paikgachha

Wheelchairs and life jackets were distributed among physically disabled residents and sea-going fishermen in Paikgachha Upazila of Khulna District on Monday.

The distribution programme was held at the Upazila Parishad premises, where Upazila Nirbahi Officer Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury attended as the chief guest and handed over the equipment.

Under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the 2025–2026 fiscal year, wheelchairs were provided to 25 physically disabled people. In addition, 133 sea-going fishermen received life jackets as safety equipment from the Upazila Parishad development fund for the same fiscal year.

Officials said the initiative aims to improve mobility for people with disabilities and enhance safety for fishermen who regularly go to sea.

Among those present at the event were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Fazle Rabbi, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Saikat Mallik, Upazila Social Service Officer Anath Kumar Biswas, and Upazila Engineer Shafin Shoaib.

Others attending included Field Assistant Randhir Sarkar, AWS Officer Shankar Ranjan, Manik Basu, Vice-President of Paikgachha Press Club Md. Abdul Aziz, journalists SM Alauddin Sohag and Abul Hashem, and Upazila Parishad CA Krishnapada Mandal.
