State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has directed authorities to clean dirt and garbage along the Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway and plant neem and flower saplings to improve the highway’s environment and appearance.
The minister gave the instructions while inspecting the highway in Gazipur on Tuesday afternoon.
He asked the Gazipur City Corporation and the Roads and Highways Department to quickly remove accumulated waste from both sides of the road and transport it to designated dumping stations. He also stressed maintaining cleanliness to ensure a healthy roadside environment.
The minister said it is unfortunate that piles of garbage have been found along major roads. He noted that the country’s prime minister had earlier observed similar conditions on the same highway while travelling to Mymensingh.
Following the inspection, the state minister instructed officials to set up dumping stations promptly and plant neem and flower saplings along both sides of the highway to improve its beauty and environmental condition.
Later in the evening, Mir Shahe Alam attended an Iftar gathering at the Gazipur Circuit House.
