A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced two men to death for the 2023 murder of Tejgaon College student Ikram Hossain Molla in the capital's Khilkhet area.

Judge Md. Sabbir Fayez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court delivered the verdict. The convicts are Md. Siddique, 23, and Md. Shanto Mia, 22.

Alongside the death penalty, the court sentenced both to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined them Tk 50,000 each for concealing the body. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three months of imprisonment. Court bench assistant Md. Riaz Hossain confirmed the ruling.

According to case documents, on May 4, 2023, Shanto and Siddique lured Ikram from his home under the pretext of repaying a debt. They took him to Bashundhara Balur Char, where they beat him with a hammer and slit his throat with an anti-cutter.

To hide the crime, the duo dumped the body in a nearby pond and covered it with a cotton sheet. Police recovered Ikram’s remains two days later, on May 6.

Following the murder, the victim’s father, Md. Kabir Hossain Molla, filed a case at Khilkhet Police Station. Investigating officers submitted the charge sheet on November 26, 2023. The court framed charges on February 29, 2024, and recorded testimonies from 17 witnesses before reaching today's verdict.A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced two men to death for the 2023 murder of Tejgaon College student Ikram Hossain Molla in the capital's Khilkhet area.
