


Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Md. Fahimul Islam inspected the survey activities related to determining the possible alignment and right of way (ROW) of the bridge to be constructed under the proposed rail-cum-road bridge construction project over the Karnaphuli River at Kalurghat in Chattogram.
On Saturday, February 1, he inspected the project area and observed the overall progress of the survey work and exchanged views with the concerned officials. The Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, while emphasizing on determining the exact alignment, proper planning of land management and maintaining technical standards in the project implementation, directed to complete the preparatory work of the project within the stipulated time frame.
During the inspection of the Kalurghat Bridge project, Bangladesh Railway Director General Md. Afzal Hossain, Railway Eastern Zone General Manager (GM) Md. Subaktagin and senior officials related to the project were present. They informed in detail about the possible alignment of the proposed bridge, the extent of land acquisition, the progress of the survey activities and the future work plan.
It is worth noting that if the rail-cum-road bridge construction project over the Karnaphuli River in Kalurghat is implemented, it will bring a revolutionary change in the rail and road communication system of the Chittagong region. The concerned parties hope that communication with South Chittagong, Boalkhali and the Chittagong Hill Tracts regions will be easier, faster and safer through this bridge.
