Police have unraveled the mystery behind the dismembered body found in the Bayezid Bostami area of the city. A woman, identified as Sufia Akhter (39), has been arrested for the gruesome murder of her acquaintance.
The details were revealed by the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) during a press conference at the Bayezid Bostami Police Station on Friday night (January 23).
On January 20, local residents found two severed human hands wrapped in black polythene at the Chartalar Mor in Shahid Nagar. Following a rigorous investigation, police identified the victim as Md. Anis (38), a resident of Raozan Upazila. His family confirmed he had been missing since the afternoon of the discovery.
Deputy Commissioner (North Division) Amirul Islam stated that Sufia Akhter was arrested from Shahid Nagar early Thursday morning. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to the crime, citing a long-term relationship with Anis that had recently soured due to disputes. Sufia lured Anis to a house in Pathanpara on the afternoon of January 20. She allegedly struck him on the head with a heavy stone before slitting his throat with a sharp weapon. To conceal the crime, she dismembered the body and dumped the parts in various locations across the neighborhood.
Based on Sufia’s information, police have recovered various other body parts of the deceased. The CMP confirmed that legal proceedings are currently underway to ensure a swift trial for this brutal act.
