The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday arrested an official of the Bashkhali Upazila Family Planning Office while he was allegedly accepting a bribe.
The suspect, Shah Alam, an office assistant, was caught during a "trap operation" conducted by an ACC team from the Chattogram Integrated District Office-2.
According to ACC officials, the operation followed a complaint from Moddasherul Haque Masud, a retired security guard of the same office. Masud alleged that Shah Alam had demanded Tk 90,000 to process his long-pending retirement benefits and pension documents.
"The suspect had already taken a portion of the money via bank checks," said ACC Assistant Director Musabbir Ahmed. "He was caught red-handed in his office today while accepting a further Tk 20,000 in cash."
The raid was supervised by ACC Deputy Director Riaz Uddin and supported by local police. Authorities seized several official documents during the arrest. Shah Alam has been sent to jail, and a formal case is being processed.
