The newly built Kabi Nazrul University School and College building at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University was inaugurated on Tuesday through the unveiling of the inauguration plaque and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Professor Dr Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain the vice-chancellor of the university and president of the Kabi Nazrul University School and College Management Committee inaugurated the building at around 11:00am.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted by Dr Md Ashraful Alam the director of the Student Counselling and Guidance Office.

Speaking at a brief discussion following the inauguration, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain said, “There is a Bengali proverb, ‘darkness under the lamp’. However, this proverb has now changed and there is no darkness under the present electric lamp. The situation of our university school has also changed in the same way. If the foundation of anything is not good, the subsequent part will not be good either. Therefore, we have given importance to the foundation of education from the primary level itself.

Children of the university's teachers, officers and employees have to stay away from the campus to receive education at good schools. If we can make the university's teachers, officers and employees more campus-oriented, the university will be able to receive much more service from them. I hope this school will be much better than conventional schools and will be established as a model school and college. However, it will not be enough to provide education only through infrastructure and teachers; guardians also have an important responsibility in educating their children at home.”

The vice-chancellor further said, “We are not providing educational opportunities only to the children of the university's teachers, officers and employees the local residents will also be able to enroll their children. It will remain open to everyone, and everyone will have equal opportunities. The cost of studying at many renowned schools is high but we will determine the expenses considering that the guardians do not face hardship. The school and college is surrounded by a complete security system. Therefore, you can leave your children here and remain assured. The university administration will provide overall cooperation in all matters of the school and college but you will also have to come forward with your cooperation.”

Referring to the existing situation of the school, the vice-chancellor said, “Five teachers are teaching at this school. They are teaching without remuneration. If we do not pay them salaries, how can we expect quality education from them? Therefore, we have already obtained approval after communicating with and applying to the Ministry of Education. I hope governmentisation will be possible soon.”

Following the inauguration, speeches were delivered by university Treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Imdadul Huda; Professor Dr Shakhawat Hossain Sarkar, dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and president of the Kabi Nazrul University School Management Committee; Md Hafizur Rahman, director of the Planning, Development and Works Office; Hasnat Jahan Khan, upazila nirbahi officer and Md Mahbubur Rahman, assistant commissioner (land).

Among others, Professor Dr A H M Kamal, dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering; Professor Dr Muhammad Emdadur Rashed (Rashed-Sukhan), dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts; heads of various departments and offices; university engineers; teachers, officers and employees; leaders and activists of the university unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, students, academic and administrative officials; senior bank officials and guardians were present.

After the inauguration of the Kabi Nazrul University School and College building, Hafez Mufti Md Abdul Hakim, pesh imam of the university's central mosque, led a prayer seeking prosperity for the school and college and the university.

The newly built Kabi Nazrul University School and College building is a five-storey structure built on a five-storey foundation with each floor covering 11,500 square feet.
