


Residents staged a protest by obstructing the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway near Tongi College Gate, advocating for the reinstatement of the Gazipur-6 constituency.
They organized a protest march at approximately 10:30 am on Wednesday (November 12) and blocked the highway, halting traffic in the area.
The newly established Gazipur-6 constituency, created in anticipation of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, was annulled by the High Court on Monday (October 10). The court mandated the restoration of the Bagerhat-4 constituency instead. This ruling has led to political turmoil in the greater Tongi and undivided Gazipur-2 regions for the past two days, eliciting strong reactions from the local populace.
Local entrepreneur Nurul Islam expressed that there is significant frustration among the general electorate following the annulment of the Gazipur-6 constituency. There was considerable enthusiasm surrounding this seat in the community. The cancellation has adversely affected millions of voters. The demonstrators have declared their intention to persist in their protests until an announcement is made regarding the restoration of the seats.
Residents, including leaders from BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, have conducted a protest by blocking the highway, demanding the preservation of the Gazipur-6 parliamentary seats.
On Wednesday, between 10 am and 11:30 am, leaders and activists from various parties organized a protest by burning tires in the Station Road area along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Simultaneously, blockades were established by igniting tires at key points on the highway, including Tongi College Gate, Asia Pump, and Gazipura. Consequently, travelers on the highway faced significant disruptions. During this time, the protesters called for the resignation of High Court Justice Shashank Shekhar Sarkar. Sarkar Jabed Ahmed Suman, the president of Tongi East Thana BNP and a candidate for the BNP nomination in the Gazipur 6 constituency, spearheaded a protest, igniting tires alongside hundreds of leaders and activists in the Tongi Station Road area.
Conversely, in the College Gate area, BNP central committee member and freedom fighter Hasan Uddin Sarkar, executive president of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Salah Uddin Sarkar, Jamaat-e-Islami nominated MP candidate Dr. Hafizul Rahman, former joint convener of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP Rakibul Uddin Sarkar Pappu, Arif Hossain Howlader, convener of Tongi West Thana BNP Bashir Ahmed, BNP leader Jasim Uddin Bat, Ameer of Tongi East Thana Jamaat Nazrul Islam, along with leaders from various levels of BNP and Jamaat.
