Ashika Distributes Relief to 250 Flood and Landslide Victims in Rangamati's Baghaichhari

Non-governmental organization Ashika has distributed emergency humanitarian assistance to 250 families devastated by recent flash floods and landslides in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila. The relief initiative was funded and supported by Start Fund Bangladesh and UKAid.

The distribution took place on Friday at the Baghaichhari Upazila Parishad auditorium. Municipality Tax Inspector Manisha Chakma presided over the event with Municipal BNP President Haji Nizam Uddin Babu attending as the chief guest. Ashika Upazila Monitoring Officer Rupayan Chakma and several local community leaders were also present.

To address immediate post-disaster food and sanitation crises, each affected family received a comprehensive relief package. The food rations included 40 kg of rice, three liters of soybean oil, lentils, sugar, salt, potatoes, onions, garlic and dried fish.

In addition to food, the packages prioritized hygiene and safe drinking water to prevent waterborne diseases. Beneficiaries received a 20-liter bucket, soaps, a plastic mug, 10 packets of oral saline, 10 water purification tablets, a towel, detergent powder and a cooking vessel.

Speaking at the distribution, local leaders emphasized the vulnerability of communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts during natural disasters.

They commended the timely intervention and urged government bodies, donor agencies and affluent individuals to step forward and support the ongoing recovery efforts in the region.
