Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in their sixth league match of the ongoing Women’s ODI World Cup, hoping to keep their semifinal dreams alive. The match will begin at 3 PM Bangladesh time at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
The Tigresses began their campaign with a promising seven-wicket win over Pakistan but then suffered four straight defeats against England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia. Despite showing fight against England and South Africa, Nigar Sultana Joty’s side currently sit sixth in the points table with two points from five matches.
To reach the semifinals, Bangladesh must win their remaining two games and also hope for defeats for hosts India and New Zealand, who each have four points from five matches. India’s loss to England yesterday has slightly boosted Bangladesh’s chances.
Joty’s team are determined to bounce back strongly after a heavy defeat to Australia. “We want to learn from that game and take the positives into the Sri Lanka match,” the Bangladesh captain said.
Sri Lanka, yet to register a win in the tournament, are placed seventh with two points from five matches three losses and two washouts. Both teams are still mathematically in the race for a semifinal spot.
