The National Citizen Party (NCP), formed by student leaders who were at the forefront of Bangladesh’s 2024 mass uprising, is preparing to restructure its central committee, with changes expected to be formally announced within the next couple of days.
Three central leaders of the party confirmed the planned changes. According to discussions with senior party leaders, Nahid Islam is expected to remain convener and Akhtar Hossain member secretary in the restructured committee. Hasnat Abdullah and Nasiruddin Patwary may be appointed senior joint conveners.
Hasnat Abdullah currently serves as the party’s chief organiser for the southern region, while Nasiruddin Patwary holds the position of chief coordinator. Their responsibilities may change under the new committee.
There is also discussion about appointing Sarjis Alam, currently the NCP’s chief organiser for the northern region, as senior joint member secretary. Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, who currently serves as the party’s spokesperson, may also receive a different role.
Sarjis Alam may be assigned responsibility for overseeing the party’s organisational activities. Ariful Islam Adeeb and Ali Ahsan Junaid, both members of the party’s political council, may assist him in this work.
Asked about the planned committee changes, Nasiruddin Patwary said, “The party will announce the matter through a press release.”
