International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo arrived in Dhaka on Sunday morning for a two-day official visit.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Houngbo will hold a courtesy meeting with the Labor and Employment Minister on Sunday, followed by scheduled talks with the Prime Minister on Monday.
The visit focuses on critical issues within the Bangladesh labor market, including the development of labor standards, workplace safety improvements, workers' rights, social security, and skill development. Discussions will heavily prioritize the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, the informal labor market, and the effective implementation of international labor standards.
Houngbo, a citizen of Togo, assumed office in October 2022 as the ILO's 11th Director-General. He made history as the first African to lead the century-old organization.
