


Four members of the same family, including a woman and a child, died after suffering severe burns in a gas cylinder explosion caused by a leak in Daudkandi, Comilla.
The victims are Monwara Begum (60), Jill Haque (37), Umm Humayra (30) and two-year-old Hurram.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning (February 24). Neighbours rescued the victims and rushed them to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 6:00am.
Hospital official Shaun bin Rahman said all four were from the same family and arrived with serious burn injuries. Monwara Begum suffered burns to about 2 per cent of her body, Jill Haque 54 per cent, Umm Humayra 65 per cent and the child about 6 per cent.
Doctors declared all four dead due to the severity of their injuries. Jill Haque and Umm Humayra were in critical condition before they died, hospital sources said.
The explosion reportedly took place at the family’s residence in the Daudkandi area. The exact cause of the gas leak is being investigated.
