The Election Commission (EC) is today (18 January) conducting the final round of hearings on appeals against the decisions of returning officers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

Led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, the full commission is reviewing the last 35 appeals (numbered 611 to 645) along with 19 previously deferred cases. The proceedings began at 10 am at the EC auditorium in Agargaon and are expected to conclude by late afternoon.

On Saturday, the eighth day of hearings, the commission reviewed 112 cases. EC Director (Public Relations) Md Ruhul Amin Mallik confirmed that 43 candidates had their candidatures restored after their appeals were accepted. Conversely, two nominations previously accepted by returning officers were cancelled following successful counter-appeals.

A total of 645 appeals were filed nationwide following the initial scrutiny of nomination papers. During that phase, 1,842 papers were declared valid while 723 were rejected out of 2,568 submissions across 300 constituencies.

The referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election are scheduled to be held simultaneously on 12 February 2026.
