UK Defence Secretary John Healey has said Russia may have influenced Iran’s drone attack strategy in the conflict involving the US and Israel. According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin could have played a “secret” role behind some of these capabilities.
Pakistani media outlet The Dawn reported the remarks, citing the AFP news agency.
Healy said a drone that struck the UK’s RAF Akrotiri airbase in Cyprus on March 1 is currently being examined. Investigators are checking whether the drone contains Russian or other foreign components or technology.
Speaking during a visit to the British military headquarters in Northwood near London, Healy said the findings will be made public once the investigation is completed.
He also said that it would not be surprising if Russia had quietly supported some of Iran’s strategies or capabilities.
Healy added that Putin is among the world leaders who could benefit from rising global oil prices, particularly in the current geopolitical situation.
