Police on Saturday morning recovered the body of a 45-year-old businessman, Yusuf Fakir from a jute field in the Charmadhabdia union of Faridpur Sadar upazila two days after he went missing.
Yusuf, son of Sahir Uddin, disappeared on Thursday evening after arriving near his home by an auto-rickshaw. Despite extensive searches by his family, his whereabouts remained unknown until locals discovered his body with its hands and feet tied. He was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The victim's family alleged that extortionists had demanded a ransom of Tk 30,000 on Wednesday, a day before his disappearance. They suspect he was murdered because the ransom was not paid.
Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mahmudul Hasan confirmed that the body has been recovered for legal procedures and an active investigation into the murder is underway.
