1 killed, 3 injured in Shantiganj road crash accident

One person was killed and three others injured in a collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Sylhet–Sunamganj regional highway in Shantiganj upazila, Sunamganj.

The deceased was Abdullah (35), son of Chalim Mia of Ujanigaon village.

The accident took place at Madrasa Para around 11 pm on Tuesday. The injured are Farid Ahmed, son of Intaj Ullah of Astama village in Joykals union, and Jabed Ahmed, son of Harun Mia. The identity of the third injured person could not be confirmed immediately.

According to locals, the CNG was heading from Astama village toward Pagla Bazar when a goods-laden truck hit it from the side, causing it to overturn. Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Earlier, another accident occurred nearby at the mouth of Astama Road on Friday night. Residents have called for an investigation into repeated accidents in the area and urged authorities to improve road safety measures.

Officer-in-Charge of Shantiganj Police Station Oli Ullah confirmed one death.
