In a heartwarming event at the 250-bed Feni General Hospital, the newborn baby of a mentally distressed young woman was named 'Ayesha Akhter Muskan' during an emotional ceremony on Thursday evening.
The mother, Riya Islam Moni, had already chosen the name despite her struggles with memory and trauma. Honoring her wish, Maulana Mahfuzur Rahman, the imam of the hospital's mosque, officially announced the name amidst prayers and the distribution of sweets.
According to local sources, Riya hails from Uttar Sadhurkhil village in Noakhali's Chatkhil upazila. After separating from her husband five years ago, she allegedly faced domestic abuse at her family home. She eventually fled, wandering until she reached Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni. During this vulnerable period, she became pregnant, though the exact circumstances of her abuse remain unclear.
On May 6, a local vendor found her destitute at the Mollaghata market. The following day, with the assistance of a local nurse, she gave birth to the baby girl. Alerted to the situation, Daganbhuiyan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Shahidul Islam arranged for the mother and child to be transferred to Feni General Hospital for advanced care.
The mother's recovery and the subsequent naming ceremony were heavily supported by local journalists, police officials, and the volunteer organization 'Bandhumahal'. Hospital authorities confirmed that both mother and child are currently in good health.
