A four-year-old girl lost her life on Monday afternoon after being crushed under a tin-roofed house that collapsed during strong winds in Nalchiti Upazila.
The victim, identified as Nafia Akhter, was the daughter of Md. Nayan Molla from the Kulkathi Union. The accident occurred while she was visiting her grandfather’s house in the Debra area of Nachanmahal Union.
According to family members, Nafia's grandfather, Md. Nur Alam Bhuiyan, had climbed onto the roof to secure the tin sheets as the weather turned violent. A sudden, powerful gust of wind caused the entire structure to collapse, trapping the child underneath.
Local residents rushed to the scene and rescued Nafia from the debris. She was immediately taken to the Nalchiti Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead.
Md. Ariful Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchiti Police Station, confirmed the death. He stated that the police have been informed and further legal formalities regarding the incident are currently underway.
