Comilla Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large shipment of smuggled Indian sarees, valued at over Tk 72 lakh, during a raid in the Nirbhaipur border area of Sadar Dakshin Upazila.
On Tuesday afternoon (April 21), a patrol team from the Mathurapur Border Outpost (BOP), under BGB’s Comilla Battalion (10 BGB), conducted a special anti-smuggling operation. Sensing the BGB’s presence, the smugglers abandoned the goods and fled. Soldiers subsequently recovered the abandoned sarees, which have an estimated market value of Tk 72,16,000.
The seized items are currently being handed over to the state customs authorities following standard legal procedures.
Lt. Col. Mir Ali Ejaz, Commander of the Comilla Battalion, stated that BGB remains vigilant in its mission to curb smuggling and cross-border crime. He emphasized that such operations will continue to protect the national economy and maintain border security.
