A long-standing demand of the local community was met on Tuesday as intercity train services officially began stopping at Muksudpur Railway Station. To mark the occasion, the Upazila administration held a celebratory ceremony at the station premises at 12:00 PM.
Coinciding with the first day of the Bengali New Year, the Dhaka–Benapole Ruposhi Bangla Express (827/828) made its inaugural stop at the station. The arrival was met with a festive atmosphere as hundreds of local residents gathered to witness the milestone.
Selimuzzaman Selim, Member of Parliament for Gopalganj-1 and BNP National Executive Committee Co-Organizing Secretary, attended as the Chief Guest. Accompanied by his spouse, Sabrina Ahmed Shuvra, the MP arrived via the inaugural train to join the event.
The ceremony, presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmud Ashiq Kabir, featured several high-profile guests, including District Council Chairman Sharif Rafiquzzaman, Deputy Commissioner Md. Arif-uz-Zaman, and Superintendent of Police Md. Habibullah.
Addressing the crowd, Selimuzzaman Selim noted that the stoppage was approved by the Railway Minister following formal requests based on public demand. The Ruposhi Bangla Express will now observe a two-minute technical stop at Muksudpur.
"The government is committed to public welfare. This stoppage opens a new chapter for the region's communication system," the MP stated. He further assured residents that initiatives are underway to secure a similar stoppage for the Jahanabad Express (Khulna–Dhaka route) in the near future.
The event saw broad participation from local leaders, including Government Muksudpur College Principal Professor Md. Lutfor Rahman, Muksudpur OC Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, and representatives from the Muksudpur Press Club.
