A college student died and another was injured after a private car lost control and crashed on the Chattogram Elevated Expressway on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Samia Jahan Tanisha, an honors student in the Economics Department (2024-25 session) at Hazera-Taju Degree College. She was the daughter of Abu Taleb Patwari and Nasima Sultana.

Police reports indicate the victims were traveling from Patenga toward Lalkhan Bazar. Near the Barik Building intersection, the driver reportedly lost control due to excessive speed, leading to the fatal accident.

Local commuters rescued the victims and rushed them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Attending doctors declared Tanisha dead upon arrival. The other passenger is currently undergoing treatment for injuries.

"We are currently at the hospital and have initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash," said Sub-Inspector (SI) Ershad Ali of Bandar Police Station.
