The environmental organization ‘Ban Bibi,’ in collaboration with the upazila administration, has installed a promotional billboard titled ‘Bird Sanctuary Paikgachha’ to combat illegal bird hunting and promote wildlife conservation.
The billboard was unveiled Saturday afternoon, March 4, on the main road near the Gadaipur playground. The initiative aims to warn poachers and encourage the public to protect local biodiversity.
Key details of the Wildlife (Conservation and Protection) Act-2012 are featured prominently on the sign, noting that hunting, selling, or caging wild birds is a criminal offense. Under this law, bird hunting carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a 2 lakh taka fine.
During the installation, ‘Ban Bibi’ President and journalist Prakash Ghosh Bidhan emphasized the group's ongoing mission. Since 2016, the organization has operated under the motto "Save Birds, Save Nature," distributing leaflets and installing artificial nests across the upazila to provide safe habitats for local species.
The event was attended by Advocate Shafiqul Islam Kochi, Notun Bazar Traders Cooperative Society President Ashok Kumar Ghosh, and environmental activists Kartik Bachar and Ganesh Das.
