From early morning, officials, freedom fighters, political leaders, and residents gathered at the memorial to honour the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Independence and National Day was observed in Paikgachha, Khulna, with due respect and a series of programmes at the Shaheed Smriti Soudh on March 26.

From early morning, officials, freedom fighters, political leaders, and residents gathered at the memorial to honour the martyrs of the Liberation War.

At sunrise, the upazila administration, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury, placed the first wreath. At 6:01am, participants paid tribute with floral offerings, followed by the National anthem and a minute of silence.

Later, various organisations—including the Upazila BNP, Paikgachha Municipality, Upazila Health Complex, Ansar and VDP, Fisheries Research Institute, Paikgachha Press Club, the Communist Party, educational institutions, and social groups—also laid wreaths.

Throughout the day, cultural programmes were held with participation from local school and college students. They presented patriotic songs, poetry recitations, and drama, highlighting the spirit of the Liberation War and the sacrifices made for independence.

Discussion meetings and prayers were also organised at the memorial. Speakers said Independence Day represents the nation’s struggle for freedom and honours the sacrifices of the martyrs.

The programmes were jointly organised by the local administration, Muktijoddha Sangsad, and various social and political organisations. The events were held in a peaceful and orderly manner.

Residents said the programme reflected unity and respect for the martyrs. They expressed hope that such observances would continue in a more organised and dignified way in the future.
