Three people, including a child, were injured following an attack on houses and shops in the Bakhunda area of Faridpur on Friday night.
According to Gerda Union Jamaat Secretary Alamgir Hossain, the incident occurred after Tarawih prayers. He alleged that local BNP activists, led by a Union Parishad member, vandalized several properties. During the attack, a child was injured by broken glass, and a man named Azizul was severely beaten. Azizul is currently receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The accused UP member, Rashed Khan Milon, denied any involvement. He claimed he arrived at the scene only to de-escalate a situation that began when Jamaat workers allegedly attacked a local man named Jewel.
In a move to prevent further escalation, Jamaat leader and MP candidate Professor Abdut Tawab visited the scene and spoke via telephone with the newly elected MP, Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf Ahmed (BNP). Professor Tawab urged BNP leaders to restrain activists to maintain social order. Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf Ahmed reportedly assured an investigation into the matter and promised action against any found guilty.
Faridpur Kotwali Police visited the scene following a "999" emergency call. Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam confirmed that the situation is currently under control. While no formal complaint has been filed yet, police stated that legal action will proceed once a written statement is received.
