Father testifies in lawyer Alif murder case, Chinmoy Krishna Das joins virtually

The testimony phase has begun in the controversial lawyer Saiful Islam Alif murder case. The testimony of this case officially began at the Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal on Monday (February 2) at around 11 am. This is being seen as an important development in the judicial process.

It is learned that on the day of the hearing, except for the controversial accused Chandan Kumar Dhar alias Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is in jail, all the other accused were physically presented in the court under tight security. For security reasons, Chinmoy Krishna Das was joined in the court proceedings virtually through the audio-visual system from jail. His presence was ensured through the LED monitor and audio system installed in the courtroom.

As the first witness in the case, the father of the deceased lawyer and the plaintiff in the case, Jamal Uddin, appeared in the court and gave his statement. The testimony phase of the case began with his testimony. However, after the statement, Chinmoy Krishna Das' lawyer requested the court for time to interrogate him. The court granted the request and set the date for the next day to take the testimony.

The plaintiff's lawyer, Advocate Md. Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, said, "The people of the country are waiting for the trial of this brutal murder to end quickly. Today, the trial process has practically begun with the plaintiff's testimony. However, he commented that the defendant is trying to delay the trial by requesting time."

It is worth noting that the investigating officer of the case has requested the court to issue summons to about 50 witnesses mentioned in the charge sheet. These witnesses include eyewitnesses to the incident, the magistrate who took the statement, the doctor who conducted the autopsy, the officers who seized and sent the evidence, and members of the relevant law enforcement agencies.
