Indurkani’s Ripon Shil Outrage with Anti-Bangladesh Remarks from China

A Bangladeshi expatriate in China, Ripon Chandra Shil, has sparked intense criticism after making anti-Bangladesh remarks on Chinese social media platforms.

Ripon, son of Kartik Chandra Shil of Ward No. 2, Indurkani Sadar Union in Pirojpur, was previously known for running a small salon in his hometown. His rise to online fame began after a Chinese blogger featured him in a viral video on the popular YouTube channel Global Story on March 17, 2025. Since then, he has appeared in over 50 videos on various Chinese platforms.

During a live broadcast on September 16, 2025, while attending a business event in China, Ripon made derogatory and misleading comments about Bangladesh, calling it “an underdeveloped and dirty country unfit for living.” He also falsely claimed that his family was being persecuted in Bangladesh a statement later proven untrue.

The remarks quickly went viral, triggering widespread backlash both at home and among the Bangladeshi diaspora.

Local residents allege that before moving abroad, Ripon had a record of drug abuse and involvement in illegal activities, and they have demanded legal action against him for tarnishing the country’s image.

Ripon’s elder brother, Badol Chandra Shil, expressed disappointment, saying, “We have no contact with him for years. His claims are completely false no one has harassed us. His comments have deeply embarrassed our family.”

Concerned citizens and community leaders have called for strict enforcement of digital security and sedition laws to prevent individuals from defaming the country for personal gain.
