Police recovered the hanging body of an NGO worker from his residential office at Dhoparhat Bazar in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Billal Hossain (29), son of Emdadul Haque of Kamatpara Debnagar village in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh district. He had joined SKS NGO’s Dhoparhat branch two months ago as an Assistant Branch Manager, confirmed Area Manager Masudur Rahman.

According to colleagues, Billal was alone in the office dormitory as Friday was a holiday. When coworkers failed to reach him, they informed police. Officers from Dhoparhat Police Investigation Centre, led by Inspector Swapan Sarkar and SI Supod Roy, broke open the door and found the body lying on the floor with a towel tied to a ceiling fan.

Police suspect suicide, saying the towel may have torn after he hanged himself. The body was sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Sadullapur Police Station OC Taj Uddin Khondaker said a UD (unnatural death) case has been filed, adding that initial evidence suggests mental stress or family issues might have led to the incident. Investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
