The Paikgachha Upazila Awami League party office in Khulna has finally been demolished. The two-story building, built on the site of the Khulna Zilla Parishad on the orders of the High Court, was completely demolished with a bulldozer on Tuesday, January 13. District Magistrate Imran Hasan led the demolition drive. Upazila Executive Officer Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner Land Md. Fazle Rabbi and OC Investigation Idrisur Rahman were present at the time.

It is worth noting that in 1980, Madhumita Park was established in the heart of Paikgachha Upazila Sadar on the land owned by Khulna Zilla Parishad. There is a pond in the middle of the park, the water of which has been used by the people of the area as drinking water. Another boundary wall was built to make the park more attractive. Meanwhile, in 2004, some people built a market on the park site. Against this, a writ petition was filed in the High Court in 2005 on behalf of the Park Conservation Committee. No. 3590/05. When the High Court ordered the illegal construction to be stopped, it was not effective, and the Park Conservation Committee later filed a petition of contempt in the High Court. No. 102/22 After several hearings, the High Court ordered the demolition of all illegal structures within 20 days. In May 2023, 30 structures in the park were demolished by the court order, and the two-story building of the Upazila Awami League party office was built.

This building of the Awami League party office was built by the late Awami League MP Alhaj Advocate Sheikh Md. Nurul Haque. Sheikh Md. Nurul Haque was a member of parliament in the 10th parliament. Later, Alhaj Akhtaruzzaman Babu was elected in the 11th parliament and expanded the party office.

During the July movement, the agitators set fire to the party office on August 5. After the July mass uprising, no Awami League leader or activist was seen present in this party office. Finally, the entire two-story building of the Paikgachha Upazila Awami League party office, built on the site of the Khulna District Council, was demolished by the order of the High Court. The party office was demolished by bulldozers and several workers throughout the day from Tuesday morning. It was demolished as part of the eviction drive ordered by the court, said District Magistrate Imran Hasan.
